Pediatric Asthma Coalition for the Capital Region (PACCR)

Asthma is the most common chronic disease of children under 18 years of age and is becoming the fourth leading cause of disability in this age range.

Severe asthma is more common in poor, minority and inner-city populations. These populations have more asthma-related Emergency Department visits and hospitalizations, and are more likely to miss school and their parents to miss work due to illness.

The goal of PACCR is to decrease asthma morbidity and mortality in Capital Region children, ages 1-17, with poor socio-economic status (as defined by having Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care or no health insurance).

PACCR includes nine counties in eastern upstate New York: Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady and Schoharie.
