Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Services Diversity Statement

In an effort to ensure that Whitney M. Young, Jr. Heath Services embodies the core values of its patients, employees, members of the board and community, this statement is written to articulate the Board's expectations about the hiring and retention of staff. The Board is committed to recruiting and retaining board and staff that are reflective of the diversity of the population served.

Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Services celebrates diversity among patients and staff as a core value and embraces cultural competency as a part of an effective means of reducing health disparities in underserved communities. The Board of Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Services believes that diversity is an important endorsement of the community health center model of care.

To this end, it is our expectation that efforts will be made to insure that a diverse staff is recruited and retained such that:

  1. Staff recruitment will include traditional modes but will also utilize networks of other centers and groups which may have a broader reach to a diverse applicant pool.
  2. The work environment at Whitney Young places an emphasis on high standards, excellence in business practice, results and performance.
  3. The work environment of Whitney Young is sensitive to the needs of a diverse staff insuring that our culture promotes both the achievement of high standards and an inclusive environment.

While we recognize that the Board can encourage its intentions through the statements made above, it cannot ultimately dictate outcomes which are the purview of management to achieve.

On an annual basis, as part of the CEOs report, a profile of the demographic diversity of staff and patients will be presented.
